Reed Smart: AI Detective/The Deepest Fake

When Blake Doll, an influencer on Stream-Star, enters the office, Detective Smart tells him that he became popular for the wrong reasons. While interrogating him, Blake tells the story his incident at the National Fountain at 2:00 pm as part of a prank in a shark costume. In a flashback, several small fish surrounded him in the fountain, and they were so numerous they started jumping out. Soon, the fountain "erupted" with steam and fish. The crowd, disappointed at finding the fountain in ruins, began hurling fish in anger no matter how much Blake insisted that he is not behind that. Back at the office, he shows that he had multiple notifications, including videos of him coming out of bushes and throwing fish at the fountain; something he affirms he never did. The player has a hard time trying to believe him, and he explains it might be a deepfake and accused Jorgy Jenson, his Stream-Star contender for the top spot, for framing him. The player then heads to the National Fountain to investigate the scene.

At the park, the player must interview the people around the fountain with their notepad and pen. All of them appear to be busy, the state trooper making a report on Blake's incident and the visitors being too busy to hear much about it. The sole exception is the groundkeeper of the park, Milton, who feels annoyed by the fact he has to clean up the fountain from the fish. He then gives the player a flyer he found by the fountain, which they bring to Detective Smart. The latter finds out it is a flyer of a pizza restaurant with the adress and time of the incident at the back. The player then has to find more clues around the fountain, including a banana peel and pruning shears. Upon investigating a bucket of fish next to the fountain, Detective Smart intervenes by saying not every item in the scene is a clue and it can be "red herring". The groundskeeper then interrupts the talk by telling him that the fish are actually anchovies, saying they are used in salad, sauce, and as topping on pizza. Thinking the groundskeeper never got the pun, Detective Smart tells him that "red herring" is a metaphor for misleading claims and not a literal type of fish, before allowing the player to take more pictures of the anchovy bucket. Next to the bucket is a trail of footsteps as shown using the spyglass, going behind the bushes and ending at the dorsal fin of a shark costume, which Detective Smart presumes was torn from Blake's before the prank. At headquarters, the player has to arrange the groundskeeper's witness note, a picture of the anchovy bucket, and the fake shark fin before moving on to Jenson Manor to verify whether Jorgy is the culprit of the case.

In order to investigate Jorgy's case, the player has to interview the butler, who tells them that Jorgy is in need for them and to follow him to Jorgy's room. Feeling suspicious, Detective Smart asks to Jorgy about Blake's incident and whether his rivalry has anything to do with it. Jorgy, however, confirms his "rivalry" is actually playful and competitive and he means no harm to Blake. Soon, his alarm rings and he tells the player he is late for a meeting. Detective Smart then asks Jorgy if he can check his room, and the latter consents, confident to be innocent in the case. Once he leaves, the player must ask Jorgy's staff: his gym trainer, the butler, and his personal assistant Christina whose job is to keep track of his schedule. While the first two only have surface knowledge of the incident, Christina informs the player that dozens of deepfakes have been released immediately after the incident, so many of them that Jorgy cannot make all of them at a short interval. She then gives the player a copy of Jorgy's schedule as a clue. After talking to Detective Smart about the schedule, he notices that the meeting Jorgy is late for is at the same time as Blake's Blunder, and Christina answers that the meeting is with the owner of Dahl House Pizza, who also has a meeting of their own. In order to investigate the deepfakes, Detective Smart tasks the player of investigating Jorgy's computer, which turns out to be locked. Christina then explains that the computer has "cutting-edge" technology and can perform any task, including making deepfakes, much to Detective Smart's suspicion. In order to help the player investigate, Christina tries to remember the PIN code to log in, but the only clue she remembers is that it consists of three numbers. The player then has to search for the numbers across the room: 1 in one of the two paintings, 8 between the bookshelf and the vase, and 4 on the left of the chair. Having succeeded to log in, Detective Smart finds Jorgy's activity log which does not show any related to Blake's Blunder, but he feels that the investigation is not enough. Next to the bookshelf on the right is a hand-shaped pattern, which opens the wall to reveal Jorgy's "fancy closets" full of "clothes and costumes". The player then finds a shark costume hanging, which Detective Smart notices is similar to Blake's. Back in the office, the player must organize Jorgy's schedule, the photo of the shark costume, and the activity log, before heading to Dahl House Pizza for further investigation.

Dahl House Pizza

At the restaurant, Detective Smart fears it can have "scary robot characters" on stage and hanging dolls on the walls, both scaring him. An owner of the restaurant, Barbara Dahl, mistakes him for Hogan and, upon realizing he is not, tells him that the restaurant is closed and will open in an hour. Detective Smart soon corrects her that he and the player are here for an investigation, and Barbara reveals that she is one of the owners of Dahl House Pizza and Hogan runs the business in her place due to her old age. She also tells him that Hogan is gone picking up delivery and she permits him to talk to him, before she rushes to the oven for her pies. Then, Detective Smart tasks the player of searching for clues around the restaurant. Among them are a band of animal robot musicians on the right of the restaurant, including the pianist Charlotte Shark who seems to miss its dorsal fin. At the "Employees Only" room is a bunch of ingredient boxes, as well as a bucket of anchovies similar to the one at the fountain. A door leading to the office is situated at the left of the room, which has an order of 1000 anchovies on the desk and a framed clipping of a newspaper with a promotion for the opening of the restaurant. Back at the office, Detective Smart keeps Charlotte Shark at a corner, and the player must arrange on the case board the anchovy order, the newspaper clipping, and the photo of the anchovy bucket.

Epilogue

At the end of the case, the player must try to link three series of three images correctly in order to find the solution through cross-check. After that, Detective Smart brings Blake to the office and confirms Jorgy is entirely unrelated to the case. The videos were not deepfakes either, as it was actually his twin brother Hogan who dumped the fish, hiding before Blake jumps into the fountain and never meeting him. Hogan then arrives and apologizes for what he had done, which was actually an attempt to save Dahl House Pizza from a crisis. Happy to learn that and with Detective Smart's suggestion, Blake decides to give up prank content on Stream-Star and replace them with his routine in Dahl House Pizza.
